Former Black Stars of Ghana midfielder, John Nketia Yawson has played down talks of being involved in the ongoing Black Stars trophy drought.
The midfielder was a member of the Ghana squad that won the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations, as Ghana became the first ever country side to win the trophy three times.
Nketiah Yawson was said to have cursed the country after they failed to fulfil their promise after they won the AFCON, but the former Sekondi Eleven Wise player has denied such reports as the rational behind the team’s failure to win trophies.
“I didn’t cursed the team after the nation failed to fulfilled their promise but I’m African, we all believed that our failure to win the Afcon is due to the broken promise then I also believe it,” the ex-Hearts of Oak midfield maestro told Skyy Power 93.5 FM in an interview.
“It can never happened that Ivory Coast will missed two penalties and yet still they won the AFCON ahead of Black Stars.”
John Nketia Yawson was part of the Ghana team that were dubbed ‘the Brazil of Africa’ due to their dominance on the African scene, while his impressive performances also saw him win the Ghana Player of the Year in 1979.
