Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has said he sometimes worried how officials at the Ghana Football Association ride on club administrators as ‘donkeys to enrich themselves’.
The maverick politician is wondering whether the nation’s football governing body has the concerns of football administers in the Ghanaian top flight league at heart taking into consideration the ”ill treatment’ meted at them so far as football administration remain their area of specialty.
His comment comes following a proposal by Ghana Premier League Broadcast holders StarTimes to play some league matches away from the clubs chosen home venues for the purposes of what they described as good coverage of games in the domestic league.
He argued the proposal is needless and that the clubs should protest against it.
“I sometimes get worried with how the GFA ride our club chairmen as donkeys to enrich themselves at the detriment of these club chairmen”.
”GHALCA should rise to intervene in this Star Times proposal because it is absurd to tell these clubs to travel long distances for the sake of TV Coverage and you ask yourself how much they were given some peanut. In these times of our football where we are struggling to fill the stadium, you ask these clubs to play home away from home? He quizzed.
”These clubs should rise and object to this proposal, is this fair, is this responsible, is it right?, it doesn’t make sense who will bear the additional cost. The FA should be bold to tell Star Times this proposal is senseless.” he mentioned on Kumasi based Oyerepa FM.
Nii Lante however rubbished accusation by incumbent sports minister Isaac Kwame Asiamah during his meet the press encounter that he Nii Lantey Vanderpuije left the Ministry in debt of GHC51m.
He indicated the said debt has been in existence since the 2008 African Cup of Nations tournament and that he did not amass the reported amount in his ten months tenure as sports minister.
He continued “the debt the minister is talking about has been there since CAN 2008 and it should not be like I left such debt when I was leaving office for the 10 months I was at office. He should had explained where this debt was coming from and what accounted for this”.
