Ghana defender Alexander Djiku says he thought he was ill-fated after suffering two successive relegations with Bastia and Caen.
The Strasbourg defensive pillar saw a first career relegation at Bastia in 2016.17. He joined Caen and by the end of the 2018/19 campaign Djiku witnessed another drop from the elite league.
“At first, I was like, “I’m the bad luck one”. Well, there were other players in the squad who had had such reverse before.” Djiku told onzemondial.com as seen by SPORTSWorldGhana.com
“Beyond that, whether in Bastia or Caen, I have always given everything. Unfortunately, the clubs went down. Anyway, I’ve always tried to be the best performer. I regret nothing. It’s a shame for the fans who expected so much from us. These are things that happen in a career. It forges the mind. You have to know how to bounce back.” he added.
Alexander Djiku is part of the Ghana squad to face Zimbabwe in a double-header of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification.
