Former Ghana international, Laryea Kingston, disclosed that he had decided to resign even before the start of the ongoing WAFU Zone B Championship.

The former Hearts of Oak midfielder stepped down as the head coach of the Black Starlets after their 2-1 loss to Burkina Faso in the semifinal game on Saturday.

With this defeat, Ghana will not play in the final and has also missed out on qualifying for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.

In his post-game press conference, Kingston revealed that his decision to resign was made prior to the tournament, regardless of the outcome.

“The investment I put in myself (as a coach) [is] all because I want to change something in Ghana football. For me, for these six or seven months, I have given my all, I’ve done my part. As a technical person, as a coach, I have done my part,” he stated.

“After we came back from Russia (pre-WAFU tournament), that’s when I decided that whether we win, we qualify, I’m moving on. So in this case, I’m resigning after this tournament as Under 17 Coach. I’ve made that decision already before the tournament started,” he added.

Meanwhile, the assistant coach of the team, Jacob Narteh, will take charge of the 3rd and 4th place game against Nigeria on Tuesday.
