In 13 matches in four major tournaments, Rigobert Song recorded only 2 wins, 5 draws and 6 losses. Song failed in the first round of 3 of the 4 tournaments he coached Cameroon. These are the statistics behind Rigobert Song’s performance in 4 major tournaments for the Indomitable Lions; CHAN 2018, CAN U-23, 2022 FIFA World Cup and CAN 2023.

Rigobert Song announced at a press conference that he is taking the time to think about his future as Manager and Selector of the Indomitable Lions.

“I am combative. I like difficult things. I said I’m under contract. I will have time to rest, to take stock before making decisions”.

The former Cameroonian skipper is under immense pressure as the head coach of Cameroon due to poor performances at major tournaments. The president of the Cameroonian FA has a huge decision to make whether to allow his dear friend to continue the rebuilding or appoint a new one to start the whole process again.

The  Indomitable Lions had a poor campaign in Ivory Coast as they won just one game in four. The performances against every opponent were not up to the level required.

Cameroon lacked a proper goalscorer in Ivory Coast. Vincent Aboubakar, the bonafide goalscorer in the Indomitable squad only made an appearance in the second half of the 2-0 defeat against Nigeria due to injury.

The goalkeeping issues were a bit confusing and the legendary Rigobert Song has proven not to be up to the task.

Changes may be needed from the coaching department before Cameroon can come back.
