Head coach of Asante Kotoko, Karim Zito, says he would walk away from the club with pride if his spell in charge were to come to an end, despite growing pressure following a run of inconsistent results.
The former Dreams FC and Ghana U-20 coach has come under increasing scrutiny, with speculation mounting over his future after the Porcupine Warriors were held to a goalless draw by relegation-threatened Berekum Chelsea in their Matchday 18 Ghana Premier League fixture at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday. The result further dented Kotoko’s title ambitions.
Speaking after the match, Zito defended his work at the club and highlighted the progress made under his leadership, pointing to silverware already secured and Kotoko’s continued involvement in multiple competitions.
“If I leave Kotoko today, I will leave with pride,” Zito said. “In less than a year, we have won trophies, including the Toyota Cup.”
He added: “We are still in the FA Cup, and in the league the title race is still open, with any team in the top five capable of winning it.”
Zito will now shift his focus to Asante Kotoko’s next assignment as the Porcupine Warriors travel to Dun’s Park to face defending champions Bibiani GoldStars in their Matchday 19 Ghana Premier League clash on Sunday.
