Former Black Stars assistant coach Ibrahim Tanko has expressed optimism about Medeama SC’s progress after completing his first season with the club, even though they didn’t achieve their target of winning a trophy.
Tanko, who took over midway through the season, helped the team secure an 8th-place finish in the Ghana Premier League. Medeama also came close in the MTN FA Cup but fell short of reaching the final stages.
Coming into the club during a challenging period, Tanko focused on bringing stability and confidence to the squad. Under his leadership, Medeama became strong at home, suffering just one defeat at the end of the season to Berekum Chelsea.
Fans witnessed some exciting matches, including comeback victories against Bechem United, Aduana FC, and Basake Holy Stars. Another highlight was a convincing 3-0 win over Young Apostles.
“The players have responded well,” Tanko told Medeamaa 92.9 FM. “We’ve worked together to build on the foundation that was already there. Our aim is to keep improving and fight for trophies next season.”
He also praised the club’s supporters for their passion and encouragement. “Their energy, both at the stadium and online, has been a driving force for us. We truly appreciate their support.”
With the season now over, Tanko and his team are looking ahead, hoping to turn their progress into silverware in the coming campaign.
