Ghana international goalkeeper Richard Ofori has made it clear that he has no plans to retire anytime soon, stating he still has several years of top-level football left in him.
The 31-year-old, who joined South African side AmaZulu after leaving Orlando Pirates, enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 Betway Premier League season. Ofori kept nine clean sheets in 22 appearances, overtaking Veli Mothwa as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper and playing a crucial role in AmaZulu’s sixth-place finish.
Speaking to KICK OFF, the former Maritzburg United star emphasized his commitment to AmaZulu and dismissed any suggestions of stepping away from the game or seeking a transfer.
“I’m thinking about [retirement] in the sense of planning ahead, you know. But not that I’m retiring soon—no,” Ofori said. “As a goalkeeper, I still have many playing years ahead of me.”
Ofori also praised the environment at AmaZulu, calling it a “beautiful family” and highlighting the club’s ambitions and supportive atmosphere.
“I’ve recently joined this beautiful family at AmaZulu, and it’s a big team with big ambitions. It’s an awesome environment and a great family,” he added.
“The team is good—the players, the management—everyone is loving. I’m enjoying my football. I’m working hard to help the team achieve its goals and fulfill our potential. Overall, I’m very happy.”
With the 2025/26 season approaching, Ofori and his teammates are targeting a top-four finish and a return to continental competition.
Meanwhile, Ofori has not featured for the Black Stars since Ghana’s disappointing group-stage exit at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
