The nomination of Kotoko skipper Amos Frimpong, one of the outstanding defenders of last season’s league was a surprise to none.
The defensive stalwart has built a reputation as one the best defenders in the GPL.
His near-perfect ability to convert spot kicks has made his name synonymous to penalty kicks in the GPL
However the Kotoko skipper who bagged eight goals last season, faces a stiff challenge in Hearts defender Inusah Musah and Dreams FC’s enterprising left back Abdul Bashiru in the quest to be officially declared the best defender in the GPL
But Amos Frimpong is hopeful he will outdo his competitors and earn the enviable tag of “best defender in the GPL”. Whiles he concedes that Inusah and Bashiru are great players, he believes he deserves the award for his outstanding performance last season, which saw him net 8 goals and a couple of assists.
“Inusah and Bashiru were outstanding for their respective clubs last season but I believe per my performance last season, I deserve this accolade. As a defender I scored eight goals and got a bagged some assists. I think this should be enough to make me the winner in this contest. With God on my side, I will win. Frimpong told Spice FM.
The Premier League Board (PLB) is organized post every season to recognize and reward some players for their illustrious output in the course of the season.
This year’s awards is scheduled to come off on Friday 16 December at the Banquet Hall, State house.
