Relegated English Championship side Ipswich Town have officially joined the race to sign Kwame Poku, as interest in the Ghanaian winger intensifies ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old is currently a free agent after parting ways with Peterborough United, following three productive seasons. His 2024/25 League One campaign was particularly impressive — despite battling injuries, Poku managed 12 goals and 8 assists in just 27 appearances, emerging as one of the division’s standout performers.
Though Peterborough endured a disappointing season — finishing 18th on the table — Poku’s individual brilliance didn’t go unnoticed. His skill, creativity, and ability to make things happen in the final third have caught the attention of several clubs, both in England and abroad.
With a return to the Championship, Ipswich Town are looking to bounce back swiftly to the Premier League under manager Kieran McKenna, and view Poku as a key attacking reinforcement for their promotion bid. However, the Tractor Boys face tough competition.
Birmingham City are also keen on the winger, alongside suitors from Portugal, Belgium, and Germany, who are reportedly monitoring the situation closely.
Born in England to Ghanaian parents, Poku has already featured for the Ghana national team, and is said to be open to a move abroad — a decision that could see Peterborough receive only a minor compensation fee due to his age and free-agent status.
With his combination of pace, technical quality, and goal-scoring threat, Kwame Poku is one of the most sought-after free agents this summer — and his next destination could shape one club’s fortunes for the upcoming season.
