Asante Kotoko CAF Champions League game against FC Nouadhibou from Mauritania was canceled on Saturday afternoon at the Accra sports stadium due to Cobid-19 issues but the Porcupine Warriors will be smiling when they look at the amount of money ( over 40 00 US Dollars) they manage to generate online for the planned live streaming of this specific match on Ceek.com.
Internet users had to pay 15 GHC or 2.57 US Dollars in order to get access to watch the game live on www.ceek.com and at the time the match was cancelled there were not less than 15, 700 viewers who were online ready to watch the live game. This brings the total amount of money raised to some 235, 500 GH Cedis or 40, 031 US Dollars.
Obviously not all the monies raised will got to Asante Kotoko since they are doing this in partnership with Ceek.com.
Many more fans who had completed the payment and process were still waiting to get access for the live streaming meaning the numbers captured on the Ceek website could even be higher once that category of people were given access.
However due to reported Covid-19 issues and misunderstanding in the team of the Mauritania champions, referee Komlanvi Aklassou from Togo had to called off the game after the expected kick off of 15: 00 GMT was delayed by more than an hour.
As it stands now the club will have to wait to know their faith when CAF decides on the abandoned game before deciding on whether to refund monies paid by the Ceek subscribers or not.
