Jayden Owusu-Oduro, the talented goalkeeper from AZ Alkmaar, will sadly miss the upcoming European Under-21 Championship in Slovakia. He is dealing with an injury that is too serious to allow him to play in the tournament.
Because of this, he won’t be travelling with the Dutch U21 squad, which is set to leave on Sunday, 8 June. Head coach Michael Reiziger has chosen Dani van den Heuvel, the goalkeeper for Belgian club Brugge, as his replacement.
Owusu-Oduro has made five appearances for the Netherlands U21 team. He made his debut on 5 September 2024 in a 5-0 win over North Macedonia during the qualifiers. He also played in the team’s recent farewell match at De Euroborg, where the Dutch lost 3-0 to Ivory Coast.
The Netherlands will begin their tournament on Thursday, 12 June, with a group stage match against Finland, starting at 21:00. After that, they will play against Denmark on Sunday, 15 June, also at 21:00. The last group match will be against Ukraine on Wednesday, 18 June, at 18:00.
A total of 16 teams will take part in the European U21 Championship. The final match of the tournament is set for Saturday, 28 June.
