Jordan Ayew & Jeffery Schlupp feature in Palace’s defeat to Chelsea

Ghanaian duo, Jordan Ayew and Jeffery Schlupp were both in action for Crystal Palace in their opening fixture in English Premier League on Saturday.

The Eagles faced Chelsea at the Stamford Bridge in their first game of the 2021/22 league season as they suffered a humiliating defeat to the reigning European champions.

Jordan and Schlupp were both named in the starting line-up by manager Patrick Vieira prior to the game, both players deployed to either side of the wings, behind Wilfred Zaha and Jean-Philippe Mateta.

While Jordan last the whole period of the one-sided encounter, Schlupp was substituted after just 57 minutes into game, while his side still trailed two nil – courtesy goals from Marcos Alonso and Christian Pulisic.

Fellow countryman, Jeurun Rak-Sakyi was also given his a maiden appearance for the campaign with 13 minutes still left to be played.

Despite having minutes during Chelsea’s pre-season campaign, Abdul Baba Rahman failed to make Chelsea’s match-day squad. Palace ended the game as the losing side, suffering a 3-0 scoreline at the hands of Thomas Tuchel’s men.
