Ghana striker, Jordan Ayew has been named the official Total Man of the Match recipient after his impressive display in Ghana’s 2-1 quarterfinal victory over DR Congo.
The younger Ayew, who led the line for Ghana in the absence of captain Gyan, took full advantage of a scramble in the DRC defence after being played cleanly through by Atsu, and then showed incredible composure before firing home a right-footed strike into the far right corner.
Ghana were eventually pegged back through M’Poku’s equalizer for the Leopards but soon found their noses in front again after Atsu was tripped in the box. Andre Ayew stepped up and did not make a mistake from six yards as Ghana held on to seal a sixth straight semifinal appearance at the AFCON with Cameroon lying in the wings.
It is Jordan’s performance that will undoubtedly shut up the cynics and delight Grant and with his confidence gradually on the ascendency, with his impressive performances so far aiding in the Stars march into the semifinals for a record sixth straight time, he will be hoping to build on this strong performance with the Stars’ quest in ending a 35 year long agonizing wait for continental supremacy having been dealt a huge boost. And against Cameroon on Wednesday, the Stars could take another step in renewing the hopes and aspirations of an entire nation.
