Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil scored his first goal of the season for LA Galaxy, but the MLS champions were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup after a 3-2 defeat to Tigres.
Paintsil’s goal came in the 40th minute, helping to reduce the deficit for LA Galaxy after they were trailing 3-1. The Black Stars winger, who had missed much of the early part of the campaign due to injury, made his return late last month and has since been a key player for the team.
However, LA Galaxy’s hopes were dashed after they conceded two goals in quick succession. Nicolas Ibanez and Uriel Antuna struck in the 9th and 10th minutes, respectively, leaving Galaxy with an uphill battle.
After Paintsil’s strike gave the team hope, Romulo scored for Tigres early in the second half to restore their two-goal advantage.
Carlos Garces then pulled one back for LA Galaxy in the 60th minute, but it wasn’t enough to prevent their elimination from the continental competition.
