Newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Karela United FC have appointed William Opoku Mensah as the club’s substantive captain after the transfer of Philip Quarshie to lvorian side USC Bassam.
The enterprising winger who recently returned from a 1 month trial with South Korean K3 side FC Ugboubu was a key figure in the team’s qualification to the Ghana top flight league last year.
Opoku, who holds a degree in Health and recreation from the University of Cape coast ,was picked by the technical team because of his good character and leadership qualities since joining the Aiyanse based club Karela some two seasons ago from Sekondi eleven wise.
In an interview with Takoradi based Silver FM, he expressed gratitude to management of the club, technical team and the playing body for honoring with the Captaincy role.
He however promised to lead the team to a better position in the upcoming 2017/2018 Ghana Premier League.
Opoku is currently with his teammates in Cape Coast for the ongoing GHALCA G8 tournament where they have so far played two games so far.
They loss 1-0 to Hearts in the opening day before whipping experience side Ebusua Dwarfs by 4-0 .
