Former Asante Kotoko SC head coach Abdul Karim Zito has addressed speculation about a possible comeback to the Kumasi-based club, stressing that his loyalty to the Porcupine Warriors remains unwavering.
Speaking to Akoma 87.9 FM, Zito admitted uncertainty about returning as head coach but made it clear that Kotoko will always be part of him.
“I don’t know. I honestly don’t know. But one thing is certain—I am still Kotoko, and I will continue to be Kotoko for the rest of my life. Go and look at my car; you’ll see the flag there.”
Asked if a return might happen in the future, he added:
“Oh, it might be possible. One day, I could come back. But for now, this chapter is closed. Next time, we’ll see.”
Zito’s association with Kotoko spans several years, during which he served in multiple coaching roles, earning a reputation for developing young talent and instilling tactical discipline. His most recent stint as head coach lasted eight months, ending with his resignation on February 9, 2026.
During that period, Zito guided Kotoko to four trophies and kept the team competitive in the Ghana Premier League and domestic cup competitions. However, the side’s MTN FA Cup elimination at the Round of 16 by Aduana Stars and a dip in league form led to his decision to step down while the club was fifth in the standings.
Since leaving, Zito has taken up the role of Technical Director at FC AshGold, where he continues to contribute to Ghanaian football through team development and technical guidance.
Although currently focused on AshGold, Zito’s comments suggest the possibility of returning to Kotoko remains, keeping the door open for a future reunion with the club he has long served and cherished.
