Ghana’s Minister-designate for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has voiced his concerns over the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following the team’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Despite facing widespread criticism from fans and football stakeholders, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council recently decided to retain Addo as head coach. However, Adams believes that uncertainty surrounding Addo’s tenure goes beyond public opinion.
Speaking on Sporty FM, he stressed that concerns over the coach’s future are not only coming from supporters but also from within the football community.
“The future of Otto Addo is a matter of concern to me,” Adams stated.
He further explained: “This concern of stay or not stay is not just coming from the non-playing body; that is what is of great concern to me. Not just the fans, but the engagements I have had go beyond that to even the playing body and some members of GFA (current and former).”
In an effort to improve the Black Stars’ performance ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the team’s technical setup has recently undergone changes.
Adams, who appeared before Parliament’s Appointments Committee for vetting on January 30, 2025, is expected to be sworn in as Minister of Sports and Recreation in the coming days. His leadership, alongside the support of the GFA, will be crucial in stabilizing the national team and preparing them for future challenges.
