Kofi Adams has pledged to donate two months of his salary to support the Ghana Sports Fund, as he outlines an ambitious vision to grow the country’s sports industry.
The Minister for Sports and Recreation announced, “I will donate two months of my salary to the Ghana Sports Fund effective February 2026.” The gesture, he explained, is meant to demonstrate leadership and encourage others to contribute to the development of sports in Ghana.
Kofi Adams also highlighted the huge global value of sports and the need for Africa to take advantage of the opportunities within the sector. He stated, “Globally the sports industry exceeds USD 500 Billion in value yet in Africa sports contributes less than 0.5% to GDP in most countries.”
According to him, the figures show a major gap that Ghana and other African countries must work hard to close. He stressed that sports should not only be seen as recreation, but as a powerful economic driver capable of creating jobs, generating revenue, and supporting national development.
The Minister outlined that the Ghana Sports Fund will focus on improving infrastructure, supporting athletes, and strengthening sports management systems to ensure long-term growth.
Kofi Adams’ pledge and policy direction signal a renewed commitment to reposition sports as a key contributor to Ghana’s economy.
