Asante Kotoko captain Frederick Asare has described his side’s 2024/25 MTN FA Cup triumph as a “special day,” as the Porcupine Warriors lifted the prestigious trophy for the 11th time in their history.
Although the goalkeeper did not feature in the 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC in the final at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Asare was visibly elated to have won his first major trophy with the club.
“It’s been six years since we last lifted the [FA Cup], so this is a special day,” Asare said, beaming with pride. Kotoko’s previous FA Cup title came in the 2021/22 season, making Sunday’s win a long-awaited moment for the club and its fans.
The 25-year-old captain also took time to acknowledge the supporters for their unwavering backing throughout the campaign. “We’re grateful to our supporters for coming. We hope to do something even more special for them in the years ahead,” he added.
Kotoko’s latest success cements their place as the second most successful club in MTN FA Cup history, now with 11 titles, just one behind eternal rivals Hearts of Oak, who hold a record 12 trophies.
