Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito believes his side’s hard-fought 1-0 win over Berekum Chelsea will serve as the perfect confidence booster ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup clash with Nigerian side Kwara United.
The Porcupine Warriors, winners of last season’s MTN FA Cup, will represent Ghana in the preliminary stage of the competition. Their campaign kicks off with a two-legged tie against Kwara United, starting in Accra on Sunday, September 21.
Reflecting on Kotoko’s opening-day victory in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League, Zito hailed his players for their determination and attacking spirit, insisting the result was well deserved.
“After a hard-fought football match, I have done justice to Kotoko. If you look at the way we played, we created a lot of chances. If we ended this game with a draw, I don’t think it would have been fair. So, I’m very happy with my boys. It will also ginger us for next week’s Confederation Cup game [against Kwara United] we are going to play in Accra,” Zito said.
The second leg of the fixture is scheduled for September 28 in Nigeria, where Kotoko will be hoping to seal qualification to the next round.
