Asante Kotoko head coach Prince Owusu has offered an update on striker Johnson Owusu ahead of their Week 28 Ghana Premier League fixture against Samartex, revealing the forward is unlikely to return in time despite positive progress.
Speaking before Monday’s encounter, the Kotoko boss admitted the chances of the attacker featuring remain slim, though his recovery is moving in the right direction.
“The chances of him coming back in the next game are not that huge, but we are monitoring him,” Owusu said. “I met him at the physio room last night and he told me there has been significant improvement. Earlier he couldn’t lift his leg on his own, but now he’s able to do that quite well.”
Kotoko will host Samartex on April 6, aiming to build momentum after a mixed run of results—recording two wins, two draws, and one defeat in their last five matches.
Meanwhile, Samartex arrive in Kumasi struggling for form, having managed three draws and two defeats in their last five outings, putting added pressure on them heading into the clash.
The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:30 pm, with Kotoko looking to capitalize on home advantage as they push for a strong finish to the season.
