Prosper Narteh Ogum, the head coach of Asante Kotoko, extended congratulations to Richmond Lamptey for securing a spot in the final 27-man Black Stars squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Lamptey’s exceptional performances with the Porcupine Warriors earned him the call-up from coach Chris Hughton. Originally part of the provisional 55-man squad, Lamptey’s inclusion was officially confirmed on Monday, January 1, 2024.
He joins fellow local-based players, Abdul Fatawu Hamid and Jonathan Sowah from Medeama, in representing Ghana on the continental stage.
Coach Ogum expressed his praise for Lamptey’s dedication, hard work, discipline, and passion for excelling at the top level, which led to his recognition in the national team.
Ogum’s commendation came via a statement on X, where he applauded Lamptey’s achievements.
“Your dedication, hard work, discipline, and passion to play and excel at the top level have paid off! Congratulations, Nii!”
“YOU ARE THE MAN!”
The team is scheduled to commence its training camp in Kumasi on Tuesday, preparing for the challenges ahead. As part of their preparations, Ghana will engage Namibia in a friendly match before departing for Ivory Coast for the AFCON competition.
Ghana finds itself in Group B, facing formidable opponents such as Egypt, Cape Verde, and Mozambique.
The Black Stars are determined to overcome their early exit in the previous edition, aiming to make a significant impact in this year’s tournament.
