Asante Kotoko defender, Samuel Kyere claims his side’s 5:3 defeat to Ashgold in a Match Day 29 fixture of the Ghana Premier League was rigged to ensure an Ashgold win and their continued stay in the top flight.
Samuel Kyere was dropped for that match by the head coach of the club but is of the view Kotoko played a match of convenience after relinquishing a two-goal lead to lose 5-3 at the end of the game.
Deputy operations manager of Kotoko Ali Maradona had, in an interview with Kumasi based Sikka FM indicated that they will not be responsible for the relegation Ashgold to the GN Division One league and the player believes Kotoko deliberately lost that match to save Ashgold, who were on the verge of relegation.
Speaking to Asempa Sports, Samuel Kyere said, “It is unbelievable for a team like Kotoko to take a two-goal lead and sit back and lose 5-3 at the end of the game.
“After the first half the Coach spoke to the captain and after that the game changed.
“For me I suspect something fishy because everything changed after the first half. And even, the Coach decided to bench some players.
Samuel Kyere has been demoted to the U-20 team with a fine.
Meanwhile, Head coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Michael Osei has debunked Samuel Kyere’s claims about playing a fixed match against Ashgold.
Samuel Kyere was suspended and demoted to the -20 team with other five players by Michael Osei for reasons that have not been made public.
Speaking to Asempa Sports, Michael Osei said, “I don’t have any problem with any player but I will say the public should not take Samuel Kyere serious.
“I usually tell the players that it is a big honour to play for Kotoko and as the head coach of the team, I have every authority to punish you if you misbehave.
“When I punished Samuel for misbehaving, he called me the next day and told me he is sorry and that he can’t train with the U-20 and I told him that is acceptable but you will not travel with the team.”
Quizzed if the Kotoko played a match of convenience with Ashgold, Michael Osei said he was not ready to comment about it.
