Assistant head coach of Asante Kotoko Johnson Smith was announced as interim head coach on Thursday morning following the sacking of Maxwell Konadu but the former does not possess the required coaching qualification to hold the top position.
“Management of Asante Kotoko Sporting Club wishes to inform the general public that it has decided to part ways with Coach Maxwell Konadu as its Head Coach with immediate effect. Coach Johnson Smith has been appointed to lead the team in the interim.” a statement from the club was posted on their official Twitter account.
According to the Club licencing requirements only CAF Licence “A” coaches can hold the position of head coach for Premier League clubs and the former Karela United boss does not hold one. It is understood that he rather holds a “B” licence from CAF.
The list GFA published list of coaches with CAF licence A qualifications before the start of the 2019/20 season and Smith did not form part.
