After their recent draw against Legon Cities, interim coach Abdul Gazale of Asante Kotoko praised the performance of Brazilian striker Matheus Medeiros de Souza, who had previously only played as a substitute in their 4-0 win over Accra Lions in February.
Despite being substituted in the 76th minute, Gazale was impressed with Medeiros de Souza’s versatility and described him as “very tough on the ball and very defensive-minded” despite his position as a striker.
“He did exactly what he was asked of. He is very tough on the ball and very defensive-minded on the ball despite being a striker. He dropped deep to help in the build-ups and that was exactly what was expected of him and he needs to keep it up,” Gazale said.
As Kotoko look to return to winning ways after their last two matches, Medeiros de Souza will be hoping for more minutes when they face 10th-placed Real Tamale United at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.
