Communications Director of Asante Kotoko, Sarfo Duku, has revealed that the club will soon make a decision on the future of interim head coach Karim Zito following the conclusion of the 2024/25 season.
Zito, who took over from Prosper Narteh Ogum midway through the second half of the campaign, was appointed on an interim basis. Despite his short spell, the experienced tactician made an immediate impact, guiding the Porcupine Warriors to a 4th-place finish in the Ghana Premier League and, most notably, securing the club’s 10th FA Cup title after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Golden Kick FC.
Speaking to Asempa FM, Sarfo Duku praised Zito’s performance and leadership but noted that the club will assess the overall season before deciding whether he will be retained as the substantive head coach.
“When Karim Zito was appointed, we made it clear he was coming in as an interim coach, but he has done very well,” Duku said.
“In the Premier League, he lost just one game and went on to win the FA Cup. He’s performed admirably. However, we’ll sit down, review the season, and then decide if he’ll continue as head coach or if someone else will be brought in.”
Duku added that he is personally pleased with Zito’s contribution, emphasizing that the coach has exceeded expectations given the circumstances under which he took over.
With Kotoko set to represent Ghana in the 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup, a firm decision on the coaching role is expected soon as the club begins preparations for continental competition.
