Basake Holy Stars head coach Abdulai Gazale has voiced his frustration over referee Rustum Gameli Senorgbe’s officiating following his side’s 1-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko on matchday 25 of the Ghana Premier League.
The league debutants fell short at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday afternoon, with Samuel Tenedu’s deflected strike in the 14th minute proving decisive. The result handed Kotoko their third consecutive victory and extended their unbeaten run to four matches.
Speaking after the match, Gazale, a former assistant coach of Kotoko, did not hold back in his criticism of the officiating.
“Sometimes, in the second round of the league, you see so many things happen,” he said. “I usually don’t comment on officiating, but today I have to because I know what has gone into this match. We know what Kotoko tried in the first leg, but they did not succeed. Here, they have succeeded. Just look at the free-kicks awarded against us—it’s unfortunate.”
Basake Holy Stars, currently battling relegation, remain in 14th place with 24 points. They will need to regroup quickly as they fight to avoid the drop in the final stretch of the season.
