Kotoko interim coach Frimpong Manso anticipates a fiery battle against Aduana Stars on Wednesday but he’s also promising the teeming Kotoko fans that, they would leave the Baba Yara Sports Stadium feeling excited because “Kotoko will win the game”.
Aside picking the three points, which he said, was the ultimate target, Coach Frimpong Manso acknowledged that, the type of win would also matter to the fans and he would deliver the points in a package that would be appealing to them.
Kotoko are under some pressure to pick their first three points at home after failing to do so against Inter Allies and Ebusua Dwarfs. The two disappointing results added to defeats to Hearts, Medeama and Wa All Stars summed up the winless run and the intense supporters’ frustration, which created tension in and around the club.
Back from Sunday’s FA Cup win over Bekwai Football Academy, the Porcupines lock horns with Aduana Stars who were surprisingly eliminated from the FA Cup by Division One side, Eleven Wonders in Kumasi, the venue Aduana Stars would return to again on Wednesday, and are likely to go back home empty handed.
“Aduana is a tough side and the game will be very tough” said Coach Frimpong Manso. “I’m getting confident that, we can raise a side that will beat them. Yes, we will have to do that. The fans will not be disappointed at the end of the day” he assured. “We have to make the fans happy but that doesn’t mean we will play to the gallery and keep possession even when it isn’t necessary to do that” he added.
“We will try to go forward and at the same time think of not conceding. We have to win” he stressed in response to a question on his game approach. Frimpong Manso rested some of the regular players in the Bekwai match and gave starting roles to a few of the irregulars.
Asked how that would influence player selection for the match day 13 fixture, the Kotoko coach said the technical team has enough pool of players to choose from.
“I saw about five players who hitherto were not regular. We are going to see how we can blend them with the others. I know we can raise a team formidable enough to beat Aduana Stars. May be they rested some of their key players in the FA Cup game because of Kotoko. We will be looking at what we have and assemble those who can do the job”.
