Asante Kotoko SC and King Faisal FC climbed joint top of the Ghana Premier League table on six points each following the 2-0 win of the Porcupine Warriors over Bechem United and Faisal’s remarkable win in Dormaa on Sunday.
This season has seen both Kumasi-based clubs return to the Babayara stadium after a long absence with King Faisal winning 1-0 over West Africa Football Academy on opening day of the season.
The team coached by Prosper Ogum scored two late goals to beat a resolute Bechem United side 2-0. Captain Ismail Abdul Ganiyu was lucky not to see red moments before he converted an 85th minute penalty to put his team ahead. Striker Samuel Boateng killed the game with a header at the death.
In Dormaa, King Faisal run riot with a 3-1 win over Aduana Stars – a remarkable result that shocked many people.
Osman Ibrahim who is on loan from Kotoko bagged a brace and picked the man of the match award as Faisal produced a first reference match of the season.
Joint-top of the standings, Kotoko and King Faisal are separated on goal difference as the former has scored 5 goals and conceded a goal whilst the latter has four goals netted and a goal taken after two games.
Meanwhile the first Kumasi derby of the season is slated for December 4th.
