Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston says ex coach Kwasi Appiah could have done better in handling the captaincy issues that led to Asamoah Gyan been stripped off the band prior to last year’s AFCON in Egypt.
Asamoah Gyan announced his retirement from international duty with a month to last year’s AFCON after he lost the armband .He later rescinded his decision following a plea from president Akufo Addo.
But speaking on the issues almost a year after the incident, Laryea Kingston insists former Coach Kwasi Appiah should have given Gyan the armband as a retirement package at the tournament.
“Asamoah Gyan has done a lot for Ghana and a lot of people respect him that but at that time I think the way and manner the manager handled the captaincy issue,it was not done properly “Laryea told Starr Sports .
“It was close to a major tournament and you look at Gyan this could have been his last AFCON completion for the country so it could have been a retirement package for him like how it’s done in Europe”he added .
