Real Oviedo midfielder Kwasi Sibo has revealed his strong desire to help the Ghana national team end its long wait for silverware by winning the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and making a deep run in the FIFA World Cup, should the team secure qualification.
Ghana, a four-time AFCON champion, last lifted the trophy in 1982. Since then, the Black Stars have reached the final on three occasions — in 1992, 2010, and 2015 — but fell short each time.
Although Sibo is yet to make his debut for the senior national team, the 27-year-old midfielder is hopeful that his inclusion will mark a turning point in Ghana’s title ambitions.
“It has been a long time since the Black Stars won a major trophy. My ultimate goal is to win the AFCON with Ghana, and when it comes to the World Cup, I would love to help the team go far,” he told Asempa FM.
He referenced Morocco’s historic run to the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar as inspiration, expressing belief that Ghana could achieve even greater success with the right mindset and team effort.
“Morocco reached the semifinals in Qatar, and I believe Ghana can do the same — or even better. If given the opportunity, I want to be part of that success,” he added.
Sibo also emphasized his readiness to represent the Black Stars, pointing to his consistent form in the just-ended season.
“I’m fully prepared to play for the national team. I played a significant role in helping Real Oviedo earn promotion to La Liga, competing alongside some top-quality players. With the performances I put in last season, I believe I’m ready for the challenge,” he stated confidently.
During the 2023/24 campaign, Kwasi Sibo featured in 38 matches, scoring once and providing an assist, as Real Oviedo earned promotion to Spain’s top flight.
