Coach for Black Stars ‘B’ Maxwell Konadu says he would be very delighted should Ghana host next year’s CHAN competition as it will give his side the back room door to participate after losing out in Kumasi against Burkina.
Maxwell haven’t helped the local Black Stars team reach the CHAN finals in South Africa speaking on Sports File highlighted “l will be more than delighted if Ghana should host next year’s CHAN,the team was disappointed failing out to qualify in our last game in Kumasi to Burkina,as it will provide as the back door to participate as hosts,” he discussed.
He added “l just can’t explain what happened back in Kumasi. We should have qualified to CHAN as the fans did their part,trooping into the stadium to massively gear behind the team” he noted.
The coach touching on the just ended WAFU Cup where he helped his side clinch to the title for the second successive time as hosts afterwards said “the WAFU Cup was great and with the support it galvanized,if the country is to host the CHAN competition will keep the team under a certain pressure to deliver yet again,which will push the players to perform,making the nation to gain the best out of them.”
Konadu haven’t featured for the senior national team(the Black Stars) have also gotten the opportunity to manage the U-20 and U-23 side of Ghana and have coached local league giants Asante Kotoko and Wa All Stars,doubling as the current assistant coach to Kwasi Appiah at the senior level.
Speaking on the Stars abysmal first WAFU Cup encounter with the ‘scorpions’ of Gambia revealed “the game against Gambia was different and needed to be treated differently as the team enter the match with frustration and heartbreak just after the team was sent out of CHAN,” he said.
With country Ghana’s biggest headache as to how to retain locally based players made Maxwell to disclose most of the featured players in the WAFU Cup are on their way out of the country to continue their footballing career elsewhere.
