Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has clarified that Laryea Kingston has not been dismissed as the head coach of the Black Starlets.
This statement follows Kingston’s announcement of his intent to resign after his team suffered a 2-1 defeat against Burkina Faso in the semifinals of the ongoing WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship on Saturday at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
The loss eliminated Ghana from the final and from qualifying for the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year.
Despite Kingston’s declaration, the GFA confirmed that the 43-year-old will not coach the team in the third-place match against Nigeria on Tuesday.
“The Ghana Football Association (GFA) have not sacked Laryea Kingston. We have asked him to stay aside. We will call him after the tournament and find out about his decision,” Nana Oduro Sarfo told Asempa FM.
“He said he would resign, so the Management Committee thought putting him there for the Nigeria game wouldn’t be good for the team,” he added.
