Lawrence Agyekum marked a major milestone in his international career by scoring his debut goal for Ghana during the Black Stars’ convincing win over Trinidad & Tobago in the third-place match of the 2025 Unity Cup.
The 21-year-old midfielder, who has had an impressive season with Belgian side Cercle Brugge, was named in the starting lineup for Saturday’s encounter at the GTECH Community Stadium in London. He made a strong impact, finding the back of the net in the 58th minute to further extend Ghana’s lead.
Agyekum’s composed display in midfield, coupled with his goal, played a key role in Ghana’s dominant performance against their Caribbean opponents. His contributions have been steadily growing since he made his senior debut during the March international window, coming off the bench against Chad in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Following consistent club performances, Agyekum has earned successive call-ups to the national team. This past season, he featured in 46 matches for Cercle Brugge, scoring three goals and providing two assists—numbers that reflect his growing influence in midfield.
His outstanding form led to a permanent transfer from Red Bull Salzburg to Cercle Brugge, where he signed a four-year contract. Despite his recent move, the young Ghanaian continues to attract attention from clubs across Europe thanks to his strong campaign and rising profile.
