Legon Cities have named Tijani Abdul Rahim as their new head coach as they seek to revive their faltering campaign in the Ghana Premier League.
The appointment comes in the wake of Yaw Acheampong’s dismissal after a disappointing run of results.
Currently battling to avoid relegation, the Accra-based club is turning to the former Hearts of Oak, Great Olympics, and Young Apostles coach to steady the ship. Abdul Rahim, known for his ability to stabilize underperforming sides, faces the immediate challenge of lifting team morale and guiding Legon Cities through the final stretch of the season.
Legon Cities’ last victory in the 2024–25 season — excluding the forfeited win over the now-defunct Nsoatreman FC — came on March 16, when they edged Berekum Chelsea 2-1. Since then, they have gone seven matches without a win, suffering defeats against Accra Lions, Basake Holy Stars, Karela United, and Samartex along the way.
With just 25 points, the Royals sit perilously close to the drop zone, only four points above 16th-placed Karela United. Abdul Rahim will be tasked with turning around the club’s form in the remaining matches to ensure their survival in the top flight.
