Abdul Samed Salis, the midfielder of the Black Stars, is poised to sit out Ghana’s crucial match against the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers due to an ankle injury.
The 23-year-old defensive midfielder sustained a sprained ankle during RC Lens’ 3-1 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the French Ligue 1 clash at the Parc des Princes on Saturday.
His participation was cut short after just 45 minutes, with Stijn Spierings taking his place on the field.
Following the game, RC Lens coach Franck Haise confirmed in an interview with the media that the Ghanaian player had indeed suffered a sprained ankle. Haise mentioned that further assessment would be conducted in the upcoming days.
“In his case [Salis Abdul Samed], he does have a sprain. I’m uncertain about the severity at this point, but I know it originated from the incident at the outset,” Haise stated.
Samed Salis’ availability for RC Lens’ upcoming game against AS Monaco in Ligue 1 match-week four on September 2 seems doubtful.
Ghana’s head coach, Chris Hughton, is anticipated to announce his squad within this week for the final AFCON qualifier against the Central African Republic, scheduled for September 7.
His absence from the Black Stars’ lineup for the decisive AFCON qualifier against the Central African Republic would be a significant setback for the West African nation. It appears unlikely that he will be fit to participate.
The pivotal fixture will be held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where a victory or draw will secure the Black Stars’ qualification for the next edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast next year.
Having represented Ghana in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Samed Salis has accumulated seven caps for the Black Stars.
