Ghana international defender John Boye started the new Ligue 1 season with a home loss to AS Monaco and the former Ghana Premier League player wore the armband as captain of FC Metz on Sunday afternoon.
Monaco took the lead in the 22nd minute through center back Benoit Badiashile who was outstanding in the game for the team of Niko Kovac and arguably the man of the match. Badiashile scored from a rebound inside the area following a Monaco free kick.
Metz put the pressure on the visitors for most part of the game but the solitary goal would remain at full time whistle.
Boye and Tunisia international Dylan Bronn were impressive at the back but Metz firepower upfront was not enough to fetch an equalizer as Monaco stoutly defended their 1-0 lead.
Metz travel to Lille next on September 13th.
