Belgian-born Ghanaian winger Jeremy Doku has revealed that he opted to stay at Belgian Pro League side RSC Anderlecht despite the serious attempt by English giants Liverpool to sign him.
Jérémy Doku has been a standout performer at Anderlecht despite his young age. The 18-year old youth star feels very confident and indicates that he has been given more responsibilities to perform at the club in the ongoing 2020/21 Belgian top-flight league.
The highly-talented winger realizes that he can no longer hide behind his young age, “otherwise I will fly on the couch,” says Doku.
His step on the bench last year made him think: “My efficiency had to be better and I worked on that. Nice moves are not everything, the efficiency is more important”, the player immediately indicates that the left flank has your preference.
For Doku he nearly left the club following offer from Ajax and Arsenal: “Liverpool insisted on a transfer, but I chose Anderlecht.” he said.
“If Liverpool wanted me at the age of 15, they will still want me later if I succeed at Purple & White.” According to the winger, Arsenal and Ajax were also interested.
However, when it comes to the national team, Doku is yet to be chosen. He’s eligible to represent Both Ghana and Belgium at the senior national level.
“In the subsequent conversation with the Ghana coach, I made it clear to him I need time to make the right decision,” he concluded.
