Former Black stars and Asante Kotoko star Abdul Razak Karim believes that local players should not be neglected during national team selections.
No local based player was invited for the country’s 2019 AFCON Qualifier match agaisnt Kenya last Saturday by Coack Kwasi Appiah.
But the former Asante Kotoko trainer insists at least a local player must always be in the Black Stars squad to also represent the domestic league.
Speaking to Zuria FM in Kumasi, the veteran Coach said “For me we shouldn’t abandon our local players, at least one or two players must be in the squad”
He continued “We have depended a lot on the foreign players and they have achieved nothing for us .Why can’t we instill confidence in the local players? Many African countries depends on their local players now and so why can’t we do the same” the 1978 African best player quizzed.
The former Black stars assistant coach also had his take on Ghana’s defeat to Kenya last Saturday.
” A lot happened in the game. I don’t want to blame anyone for the defeat. Coaches approach games based on the opponent they are coming up against.” he explained.
“Sometimes when you know you can’t score in a game, you have to make sure you strengthen your back so that you will not concede . I trust the coaches to turns things around,’’
The Stars next play Sierra Leone in the Cup of Nations qualifier on October 10, 2018 in Ghana.
