Brazilian-born Lucas Ribeiro Costa has been tearing defenders in the Betway Premiership apart and is relishing the chance to play for Bafana Bafana after hitting top form for Mamelodi Sundowns in the current campaign.

The 26-year-old Santa Helena-born joined the Brazilians in July 2023 from Belgium side Beveren in a 5-year deal. His signing was a statement of intent from the South African champions for the CAF Champions League and he has been playing well ahead of the knockout stage of the 2024-25 CAF Champions League.

The versatile forward has been living in South Africa since July 2023 and it looks obvious that he is enjoying his stay in the Southern part of Africa. Ribeiro Costa can play across the three positions upfront and can also serve as a second striker.

His performances have not gone unnoticed as many fans and pundits have been calling Hugo Broos for his inclusion in the Bafana Bafana set-up ahead of the 2025 AFCON.

Brazilian Player, Lucas Ribeiro said when he was quizzed about playing for South Africa, “It would be a pleasure to play for South Africa’s Bafana Bafana”.

He has been named as the Player of the Month in the Betway Premiership having scored 5 goals and 3 assists in the last 7 games for Mamelodi Sundowns. Ribeiro is comfortably sitting on top of the Betway Premiership top scorers chart having scored 13 goals and provided 7 assists after week 21.
