English-born Ghanaian prospect Darren Frimpong-Kwakye has taken a major step in his development after signing a scholarship contract with Luton Town FC following an impressive trial spell with the Championship club.
The highly rated teenager earned the deal after successfully passing his trial in December 2025, catching the eye of the club’s academy staff with his versatility, athleticism and attacking output.
Frimpong-Kwakye joins the Hatters from FC Battersea Ironsides, where he featured in men’s grass-roots football last season and played a key role within the youth setup, gaining valuable experience beyond his age group.
Speaking on the youngster’s arrival, Luton Town Academy Manager Paul Benson explained the thinking behind the club’s decision.
“Darren impressed during a showcase game in the summer and after a successful trial was offered a scholarship with the academy,” Benson said.
“Left-footed with great physical attributes, Darren can play across the front line or at left wing-back. Having never been in an academy before, Darren has high potential and we are delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with him.”
During his trial period, Frimpong-Kwakye underlined his attacking threat by scoring two goals and providing six assists, further strengthening his case for a long-term place within the club’s academy structure.
