Atwima Kwanwoma SHS have been slapped with a match-fixing scandal after players of the school team were allegedly told to soften their performance on the pitch to ensure Oyoko Westphalian SHS beat them in attempt to kick giants Okess out of the qualifiers.
The shameful attempt by the P. E. Tutors of Atwima Kwanwoma SHS to kick out OKESS by instructing his players to stop playing brought the game of football into disrepute in the ongoing Ashanti Regional inter schools soccer competition.
The crucial match involving Atwima Kwanwoma and Oyoko Westphalian SHS was of interest to the three competing schools as any of them stood the chance of qualifying in their group but Anas and Tiger Eye PI will not be proud of what Atwima Kwanwoma SHS did.
After taking an early lead and cruising to qualification, Westphalian came back strongly to equalise and take a 3:1 lead in the first half, the qualification tittered towards OKESS who had a superior goal advantage.
However something interesting happened when the PE Tutor of Atwima Kwanwoma in the full glare of everybody to play it soft to allow Westphalian to beat them by a higher margin to surpass the OKESS superior goal advantage to get Westphalian to qualify.
In their attempt to do this, Atwima Kwanwoma players stood still watching the opponent score two goals in two minutes without moving an inch to attempt to play.
Many supporters went on to the pitch to stop play in anger of what the players were doing. This forced them to start kicking the ball after the 5:1 scoreline. Atwima eventually tried to redeem their image by scoring a late goal to appease the fans but it was too little too late.
The referee of the game veteran referee G. K. Manu then brought proceeding to an end with some minutes to end the game.
This act by Atwima Kwanwoma has brought the inter schools soccer competition into disrepute and hopefully deter other schools from engaging in similar acts.
OKESS however, managed to qualify from the group after the action.
