This defeat further distances them from the title race, with a significant 10-point gap separating them from the league leaders. Meanwhile, Nations FC solidified their hold on second place, trailing Samartex by just two points.
Despite a promising start from Kotoko, who were eager to bounce back from three consecutive losses, Nations FC showcased resilience and efficiency, securing a narrow 1-0 victory with a goal in stoppage time of the first half.
Forward Asamoah Boateng Afriyie netted the decisive goal, marking his 10th of the season and affirming his status as the league’s top scorer, contributing significantly to his team’s rise in the standings.
Amidst the disappointment, Kotoko supporters voiced frustration over certain refereeing decisions, leading to security personnel escorting the match officials safely to the dressing room at halftime.
During the game, Kotoko’s official Twitter account published a critical tweet, alleging bias from the referee, though the team’s lackluster performance raised doubts about their claims.
With head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum facing mounting pressure, swift action is necessary to address these issues and reverse Kotoko’s downward spiral, as continued poor results could potentially lead to his dismissal.
