The Germany U-20 national team handed the Black Satellites of Ghana a heavy 5-0 defeat in an international friendly earlier today.
German-born Ghanaian, Ilyas Ansah, who plays for Bundesliga II side Paderborn 07, opened the scoring just two minutes after kickoff and went on to bag a brace in the match.
Goals from Mainz 05’s Nelson Weiper and TSG Hoffenheim’s Tom Bischof extended the lead to four by halftime, leaving the Black Satellites with an uphill battle. Mert Kömür added the fifth goal in the final 11 minutes to seal the emphatic win for the Germans.
This match served as the final preparatory game for coach Desmond Offei and his Black Satellites squad ahead of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship.
Ghana’s U-20 side is set to compete in Group A of the tournament, where they will face hosts Togo, Niger, and Benin. Their campaign kicks off this Thursday, October 17, 2024, with a match against the Young Squirrels of Benin.
