Asante Kotoko ended their winless home run when they handed title holders Wa All Stars a 2-1 defeat on Saturday at the Baba Yara sports stadium.
Steve Pollacks’ side prior to the game had gone five matches without a win at home.
Obed Owusu headed in a fine corner by Emmanuel Gyamfi to put the Pocupine Warriors in front in the 20th minute.
Midfielder Seth Opare who was busy throughout the entire proceedings with his shot passes nearly doubled Kotoko’s lead with a brilliant strike but the ball went wide the post, denying Steve Pollack’s side their second of the day to end the first half 1 nil advantage the host.
Back from recess, striker Yakubu Mohammed scored his fifth goal of the season to increase Kotoko’s tally to 2-0 in the 51st minute.
The visitors did not give up despite conceding two goals within an hour as they kept pressing for a consolation.
Their efforts finally paid off in the 77th minute when Kweku Asuandzie netted to reduce Kotoko lead to 2-1.
Asante Kotoko defender Ahmed Adams was adjudged Man of the Match in the thrilling and entertaining game.
