Mozambique have beaten Zambia by a goal to nil in the Total Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The loss puts Zambia at the bottom of group K below Mozambique who take home three points, and Guinea-Bissau and Namibia who are yet to play their opening games.

Zambia had several chances and dominated possession, with Kondwani Mtonga once prevented by the woodwork. But it was Mozambique who carried the day, beating a star studded Chipolopolo side for the first time since 1990.

The senior national team was under pressure to redeem itself after a streak of poor performances, especially after the Under-20 national team won the Africa Cup and went as far as the quarter final of the FIFA World Cup in South Korea.
