Matthew Anim Cudjoe is focused on earning his first call-up to the Black Stars, Ghana’s senior national team. The young talent, who recently parted ways with Scottish club Dundee United, has yet to receive this honor despite his impressive track record.
Cudjoe was a key player in the Black Satellites’ squad that won the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in 2021 in Mauritania. Now, he is eager to join Otto Addo’s senior team. Confident in his abilities, he believes that once given the chance, he will showcase the skills that have earned him comparisons to Lionel Messi.
“I want to play for the Black Stars. It would be a dream. When I was with Asante Kotoko, I always told the media I wanted to play for the national team. I believe it’s just a matter of time,” Cudjoe said, as reported by 3Sports.
“I believe in myself and know the opportunity will come. It’s about hard work, the coach, and my form. I think this year people will see me in the national team, and when they do, they’ll see Messi in me.”
He added, “I’m a winger but can play as a number 10. When I get the ball, I drive forward and try to make things happen. There’s no pressure on me; I just need one opportunity [in the Black Stars], maybe a friendly game.”
Matthew Anim Cudjoe is currently seeking a new club, aiming to secure his next move before the summer transfer window closes.
