Former Ghana assistant coach Maxwell Konadu believes the Black Stars have rediscovered their rhythm and are now firmly back on course as they chase a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking on Akoma 87.9 FM, Konadu acknowledged that while some critics may downplay Ghana’s recent wins, the team’s performances are a sign of serious progress.
“I feel we are back on track,” he said confidently. “Some may argue that the countries we defeated are not top there, but football has evolved to the point where you cannot underestimate anyone. If they can play this same way against Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali, and anyone else, we will be very competitive.”
His comments come at a crucial time as Ghana gears up for more decisive fixtures in their qualification campaign. Konadu, known for his tactical acumen and experience in the national setup, urged the team to stay grounded and focused.
“Almost doesn’t count in my opinion,” he warned. “You just have to make sure you’re there, so all we have to do is focus about the immediate match and get that out of the way, and then we can see our way clear.”
Ghana’s qualification path won’t be easy, but Konadu is confident in the current crop of players, praising their mentality and professionalism.
“We shouldn’t believe that just because we’re home and dry, we should be complacent,” he cautioned. “I think the boys are professionally good and top players, so I don’t think they will lose guard and will continue to do their best to get Ghana to the World Cup.”
