Medeama SC and Samartex 1996 produced a tense and gripping contest, but it was Medeama who booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Ghana FA Cup after winning on penalties.
The Round of 16 encounter, played at the TNA Stadium in Tarkwa, ended goalless after regulation time, with both sides failing to turn their chances into goals. With no breakthrough after 90 minutes, the match was decided by a penalty shootout.
Medeama SC showed greater composure from the spot, converting four of their kicks to secure a 4–2 win, while Samartex managed only two successful penalties. The result sent the Yellow and Mauve into the last eight of the competition and ended Samartex’s FA Cup journey this season.
The game itself was closely fought, as both teams pushed hard for victory but were denied by solid defending and missed opportunities. Despite the pressure, Medeama stayed calm when it mattered most during the shootout.
The victory keeps Medeama’s strong season firmly on track. In addition to their FA Cup progress, the Tarkwa-based side currently sit at the top of the Ghana Premier League table, keeping alive their hopes of winning a historic double.
For Samartex, the focus now shifts back to league action after bowing out of the cup, while Medeama look ahead with confidence as the FA Cup competition gathers pace.
